Our Fifth Reunion was the
50th anniversary
of
our 1961 graduation —
and was held at the
Birdsboro YMCA
in Birdsboro,
Pennsylvania,
on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
We had an excellent showing.
The final nose-count was:
31 classmates, plus 21 guests —
for a total of 52 attendees.
Furthermore — 14 of those classmates were
symposiasts who were not at our 30th
fetein

Our Class President,
Dick Wamsher, and his wife of 46 years,
the former Bonnie Miller, were in attendance, and seated
at the head table with our Master of Ceremonies:
Bob Davis brought his wife of 48 years,
the former Sandy Johnson.
Both she and Bonnie Wamsher are from the Daniel Boone
Class of 1962.
Joining them were our Vice President,
high school drum-master,
and 50th Reunion premier bell-ringer,
Ron Van Pelt,
Reading Hospital's favorite registered nurse,
and a member of our Four Belles — Daniel Boone
High School's version of The McGuire Sisters —
Carole Ludwig Gentile,
and our Class Salutatorian,
also a member of The Four Belles —
who began singing their trademark tune,
Sugartime,
in February
of 9th grade (1958) —
Terry Schlegel Henry.
At table number 2 was our
only attending alumnus
to marry a 1960 graduate of Daniel Boone:
Ron Henry, with his wife of 48 years,
the former Jean Peterson.
Also in vicinitas was our sole
arboriculturist,
Ray Groth, and his wife of 47 years,
the former Pat Stoudt, our third (and final)
lady in attendance, from the
Daniel Boone
Class of 1962,
plus Keith Kershner,
with his wife of 43 years,
the former Nancy Stoudt,
who've been homesteading
in Shillington since 1968,
and
Gerry & Bev Breitenstein
— 2 of our
8 classmates, who married
classmates.
Prior to April 8th of 1967, we knew Gerry's lady as Beverly Wentzel.
At table number 3 was
Donna Rimby Drexler,
with her husband of 41 years, Dave — back
from living in
Hawaii for
9 years. Donna and:
Susan Henry,
were two of our very active Reunion
Committee Members.
Susan brought her significant other, David Steinmetz, to
celebrate with us.
At the same table was another major Committee Member,
Dolores Guest Heins, and her husband
of 40 years, Bob, and:
our most distant 50th Reunion attendee,
Ruthie Ritter Overdorf, traveling 852 miles, up from
Summerfield, Florida, with Paul, her husband of 38 years.
At table number 4 was a 1957 Milton Hershey classmate of Paul Overdorf,
Wayne Myers, the 50-year husband of
Toni Kulp Myers, along with:
two other Reunion Committee Members,
Bob Kline,
a 36-year employee at Stanley G. Flagg's, in Stowe,
and our fearless leader:
Joyce Hamilton Zeiber,
and her husband of 45 years, Jim.
Besides being our Class Treasurer, Joyce has
been our Chief Reunion Orchestrator since uh ...
1789 — or well: forever.
Rounding out this table was one of our few classmates who
has never missed a reunion — that would be
Pete Knerr, and Phyllis, his wife of 47 years.
At table number 5 was
our only book author,
Pat Krause Oxenford,
with her husband of
49 years, 1959 DBHS graduate, Ray Oxenford, and Pat's "sister"
on the Reunion Committee:
Faye Houp Schadt,
who happens to be the last of us to marry
for the first time — to fellow teacher,
Tom Schadt, in 1996.
Completing this table were two out-of-town classmates:
Ron Rupert, our only classmate to have
flown aerial surveillance for two different U.S. Presidents,
and his wife of 46 years, Glenda, and:
our Class Valedictorian,
Suellen Winterhalter Nugent,
who came down from East Lyme, Connecticut, with Ed, her husband
of 9 years.
At table number 6 were two other out-of-town classmates:
Jim Crocker, the only of us to have
bicycled around Canada — here with his wife of
13 years, Alice, and:
Julie Hohl Ogurcak, with her husband of
41 years, Bob Ogurcak. Julie is our only
classmate to have become a motion-picture projectionist.
Also at this table was
Mary Roberts, who was an accountant & bookkeeper
for 41 years at Pottstown Metal Welding, before retiring in 2004,
and:
2 more of our 8 classmates, who married classmates.
They would be
Dewey & Nancy Johnson
— who wed in 1999.
In school, we knew Dewey's lady as Nancy Oxenford.
At table number 7
(the last but not least)
was our Class Clergyman,
Darnell Bickel, and his
wife of 42 years, Sharon,
in addition to:
our Master of Introductions for this 50th Reunion of the
Daniel Boone High School Class of 1961,
John Kiefer, with his wife of
47 years, Bev.
Yes. Only one
classmate showed
up at this
eisteddfod,
in a little red Corvette.
'Twas
Kenny Sherman,
along with his wife of
46 years, Judy.
Classmate #31 at this
— our first reunion
in 20 years — was your webmaster,
Gerry Stuart.
Reunion #53
Our Eighth Reunion hasn't
occurred yet — but
